Rare & beautiful Hammock egg delivery box, used to send eggs from the country to supplement rations.
Wooden "hammock" box used to transport fresh eggs by road or rail. The box has the word "EGGS" stamped on all sides and the hinged lid is stamped "HAMMOCK" and "MAKERS THE DAIRY OUTFIT CO LTD HEMEL HEMPSTEAD HERTS". The box has 12 suspended egg compartments formed by strips of horsehair padding that are draped over wooden dividers. On top of the compartments are a further rectangular piece of padding.
