Altar table

A wonderful antique oak altar table with a lovely depth of colour, beautiful natural grain and traditional pegged construction.

Originally with an ecclesiastical feel, its simple, substantial form makes it equally at home as a hallway console, side table or display table. The tabletop has a distinctive central cross-shaped timber detail, while the square legs feature decorative inset detailing and visible wooden pegs that add to its age and character.

There are two recessed areas to the tabletop where plaques have previously been fitted, along with various age-related marks, knocks and wear. One front corner has a more significant area of loss and splintering to the moulded edge, which is clearly shown in the photographs. These imperfections are part of the table's history and character, rather than structural issues.

A wonderfully unusual piece for anyone looking for something with real presence, history and character.
